Coloring Outside the Lines!

Sunday, October 7th, 2012

I’m having so much fun as part of the Faber-Castel Design Memory Craft Mix & Match design team! Over the next few months I’ll be posting fun and easy projects using their fabulous art products! This week I decided to color outside of the lines and here’s how I did it.

Supply list:
Mixed Media Aquarelles & Ink –Green
Mixed Media Aquarelles & Ink- Black
Pitt® Artist Pen-Warm Grey V274
Stampers’s Big Brush Pen–Black
Pitt® Pastel-1121-280
Glue dots or decoupage medium
White scrapbook paper

Step 1. Sketch a bird onto white paper using the Pitt Pastel pen. Apply black Indian ink onto the flower stamp and randomly stamp onto bird. Using the green Indian ink, stamp entire bird. P.S. it’s okay to stamp outside the lines!

Step 2. Using Pitt® Art GRIP® pencils in green and yellow tones, randomly color inside the bird sketch. It’s easy to “Mix & Match” the colors because Faber-Castell has done all the color work. Using the brush inside the kit, dip in water and apply over the penciled colors you just applied. Allow to dry.

Step 3. Cut out the bird shape and grunge it up using the Pitt® Pastel pencils. Secure to any surface—I chose to use a vintage watering can!

DIY Birth Announcement!

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

It’s a girl just born a few hours ago!   Our 5th grandchild!   This little announcement gave me instant gratification!  Anyone can go out and purchase a gift for a newborn however I opted to personalize my gift with a custom birth announcement that Emily can hang on her bedroom wall!

I used the fabulous Deutica  Mandolyn font styles to create the message and created the boarder from some of my original artwork!  I think my Daughter-in-Law will be pleased!

Easter Table Inspiration

Monday, March 19th, 2012

Need a quick idea to spice up your table this Easter?  No matter if you’re serving breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner, this idea will spread a happy message to your guests.

I’m serving breakfast this Easter and thought it would be fun to “doll up” my egg holders with some Duetica Fonts.  So I got on my computer and overlayed  two layers of fonts (see below) to give it a little more depth.  Once you print it out and cut it to size,  secure it to the egg holder.  This same idea could be used for napkin rings, coasters and more.

Garden of Friends

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Here’s another idea for using  Wood Wynds font.   This would make a great card for your favorite gardening friends or gardening group.   What I like about this new font style is that theirs so many variations on the swirls that you can mix and match any way you like.

Family Fun Mini Photo Album

Monday, September 19th, 2011

This is a mini scrapbook made from Kaiser Craft paper, embellishments and pressed board using Duetica “Floot” font.  My inspiration for this little book was to use it as family photo display that could be placed on a tabletop either layng down or propped up.   Sort of like a photo frame.

No special techniques were needed here (although I did create the custom polka dot circle cut out in photoshop) –just mixed media embellishments, and strips of paper  glued together to create a festive and fun photo display.

Supply List  Duetica font —Floot  and Kaiser Craft papers, embellishments and pressed board.

Handmade Party Invitations and Place Cards

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

I’m a a stickler for making my own party invitations.  And you know what???—-it’s worth the effort.  Why?  Because your guests will remember the event and be even more enticed to come to your party!  Plus making something handmade is just so therapeutic!

For this month Duetica Lettering System project–I decided to use a funky little font called Piper.  I just love the whimsical feel to this font especially for a little girls party.

Each of the little “dress” cards were all handmade from some original dress sketches I made.  Each dress form is the same pattern however each was embellished a little different from each other using a fine point pen, colored pencils and rhinestones!

Be sure to check out all my other design team members to see what they came up with using this simple font system!
