KITCHEN MAKEOVER

 THE  AFTER:

Waverly had donated the aqua fabrics but I wanted to add a bit more design to them.  So I stenciled the boarders to add a bit more pizzazz.  Bright green paint on the chairs and table also perked things up and I found some really nice tablecloths at the Goodwill and used it for the new seat covers!   This was probably the easiest room makeover of all 5 rooms!

THE BEFORE:

Nice change from the old room –oh yeah!

THE HALLWAY TO HEAVEN

 THE  AFTER:

Unfortunately I didn’t get a before shot of the hallway but it was drab and dreary.  Now it just drew you in and the mirror which originally hung on the left wall of the hallway instantly opened up the space.

THE CLOSEUP:

The small table was upcycled with paint and placed  between both bedrooms—- merely for convenience and a nice look.  For convenience sake, it was great for  leaving notes or found objects before going to bed!  The accessories were Goodwill finds and added a feminine touch.

PAINT YOUR TABLE

 THE BEFORE:

Fabulous 1960′s bedroom side tables were a great find!  This added more storage and more style as you can see below.

THE AFTER:

Green paint on the side table and white paint on the handles revamped both tables wonderfully.  I found the metal sculpture in a discount store and had Mac use her SIZZIX and scrapbook paper and some paint to create her own work of art!  This was an easy and inexpensive project that anyone can do.

Same thing here!  We recovered the lampshade with some leftover fabrics that we used on the LIVING ROOM coffee table.  Artwork was something I made using Mac’s SIZZIX and a $1.00 frame.

Diary of a Designer: Christina’s Bedroom Makeover

A GIRLY GIRLS BEDROOM

 THE BEFORE:

Here’s a shot of Christina and me just before the makeover began for her bedroom.   She had “stuff” everywhere so first things first!  Clear out the drawers and closets.  This room desperately needed some color and boy what a difference some pretty pink and green fabrics and paint made!  Oh and those dingy blue rugs had to go!

THE AFTER:

Wow, bodda bing, bang!  Christina was so delighted with the results as was I!   We moved the bed to the side wall (the one you saw when you first walked through the door) to make the room more inviting.

Together we made all the curtains, bed -cover, pillow covers and upholstered a hand-me-down headboard that she desperately needed to replace.  (FYI: Her original  furniture was fake green marble laminate! )

While teaching Christina how to sew, I noticed that she had a hard time sewing a straight line  (I did not know that she had Attention Deficit) so to remedy this small set-back, I used blue painters tape next to the presser foot of the the machine so she could focus on the direction of the needle and thread and follow the line of tape for straight seams.  Success!

The other challenge I faced was designing the bedcover  using the limited amount of fabric that had been donated–we barely had enough to cover her queen size bed–but you know what–I think every challenge makes for a more original design!  I hope you like it as much as we did!
